4 project to do in 4 minutes or less!
Sunday, April 23, 2017As someone who works full time I'm always looking for ideas for quick projects to do when I'm low on time (and energy..!). I'm also always looking for quirky places to get cheap craft supplies. Here are some pieces I've done recently that took me 4 minutes or less to put together and often used cheap or commonly used craft equipment!
1. Washi tape watercolour border
This is quite a popular one I've seen, but I gave it a go the other day with my new washi tapes.
I got a pack of 5 washi tapes all with super cute patterns on from Primark for £1.50! I was in total shock at how cheap they were and was a little worried they'd be rubbish but considering I paid 30p per one they're great.
I was impressed at how neat the lines were once I peeled the tape off, all in all to this point probably took about 3 minutes. I kind of did this lemon pattern by accident but it reminded me of Beyonce, so I decided to letter a lyric of hers in the middle.
Not my best lettering, I'm still getting used to using a paintbrush, but for a quick one I was happy and loved the vibrant colours!
2. Rose gold gift tags
I found this ink by accident when looking in 'The Works' for a cheap book. They had a load reduced in various colours but they only had one left in 'rose gold' so I grabbed it. For £2.50 I thought it was worth a shot, even though it looked like more of a copper/gold mix in colour.
The ink had a really nice shine to it and was a nice consistency. I really like things with a watery consistency because I love working with watercolours so this was perfect for me. I had some pre-cut black card which saved time with this but I thought it would be nice to do some very simple designs and all in all this only took a couple of minutes.
I took a photo to show how the ink layered. The left shows three coats which wasn't too different to two coats in truth but the right shows only one coat. Quite a dramatic difference but nice to have the option of having a stronger/weaker colour. Overall time took was about 3 minutes!
3. Watercolour florals and succulents
In the spirit of Earth Day yesterday I thought I'd letter a piece in homage to our Mother Earth! I even decided to whip out my cactus candles my lovely friend Dawn got my for Christmas.
I started off with some cacti which slowly evolved into lemons, roses and all other random things from the natural world.
The final piece did get a little crazy and I wish I'd toned it down in retrospect, this piece did take about 6 minutes but I included it still because if toned down/a faster painter did this it would be under 4 minutes!

4. Birthday card
Unfortunately I don't have any process photos for this piece as I did it on the fly for a family member! All I did though were some watercolour polka dots and whilst they were drying made a black banner and heat embossed a birthday wish on. I used some double sided tape to place it on the card and voila!
This card took about 4 minutes and considering it was such a quick job I was chuffed with how it came out!
I hope this post provides some inspiration for projects, if you try any of these yourself as a result of seeing this post be sure to leave me a comment or link to a picture!
