How to ditch creative block
Monday, April 17, 2017I think everyone has those days where they lack the creative drive pushing them to make beautiful things. Some people find this can be random but I think for me this is often seasonal. As soon as the sun is out I feel energised, I want to create and paint but I also feel like I'm wasting the sunshine if I stay inside like a little hermit making away!
So, I usually have to compromise... and the best way I have found to do this is to go for a long and refreshing walk and soak in the sun but make sure I have a camera (usually my phone) on me so I can snap away and refer to the images for inspiration later on. So on this totally gorgeous bank holiday Monday my boyfriend (Tom) and I went on a walk to a local park called Wensum Park which neither of us had visited to get some fresh air and snap some pics!
I always love getting photos of reflections in water, I don't know why this is but there's something quite nice about it!
I only noticed this when looking back on my photos but the clouds are totally mimicking the trees forming a perfectly white cloudy outline of them. Is it just me seeing this?!
I always utilise an opportunity to get some pictures of some flowers! I took many more but like these two in particular. I love the shape of the purple flowers petals, not one I've seen before! How stunning is this white blossom too? I always think it's such a shame that cherry blossom doesn't stick around for longer as it's such a stunning flower and one I really want to try and paint soon, so I'm pleased I have some reference material now!
I did have a minor break down when I saw these ducklings because LOOK AT THEM. There were 14 in total and they were just the most precious things ever.
I found some really interesting lettering on the gates as well, I love the 'P' especially... love finding things like this in such interesting places.
Overall I'd really recommend this as a technique for anyone who finds themselves in a similar predicament to me regarding going out or staying in. There is of course the option of delegating days but in the UK sunshine is rare so I always run out like a manic woman as soon as the first ray breaks through the cloud. I think we often turn off our brains to the world around us but inspiration can be found every day if only we look around and seek it out.
I hope this is useful advice, I'll try and do a follow up post to this to show what I end up producing from the images I've taken! For now though, I'll leave you with a cheeky selfie...
